According to unofficial information, the upcoming product will be part of the Sony IMX8 sensor family. A 1/1.49-inch sensor with 54 million pixels has recently been added to this series. Images with a resolution of up to 8768 × 6144 pixels can be generated.
Unfortunately, there is still no information about the characteristics of the 100-megapixel Sony sensor. Suffice it to say that it was created with high-end, mid-range devices in mind.
It is worth noting that almost three years ago, Samsung announced its first 108-megapixel image sensor for smartphone cameras. And in September 2021, the world’s first 200-megapixel product, the Samsung ISOCELL HP1 sensor, debuted.
At the same time, Sony is now the largest supplier of sensors for smartphone cameras. According to Strategy Analytics, this company occupied almost half of the world market last year – 45% in monetary terms.
