For the analysis, Morgan used 4K gameplay videos broadcast by CD Projekt RED showing the passage of the same introductory mission to Phantom Liberty on a PC running Windows 11, PS5 and Xbox Series X.
On consoles, the addon ran without ray tracing at 45-60fps (drops are worse on PS5) in 900p-1440p upscaled to 4K with FSR 2.0. The game ran at 30 fps on PC, but with path tracing on Ultras.
Phantom Liberty is even seen on PS5 and Xbox Series, according to Morgan “incredibly realistic shadows and reflections”.
“Judging by the video, Phantom Liberty is a very nice addition even at 60fps in performance modes on PS5 and Series X, but PC gamers are getting the best version of Dog City.”says Morgan.
Morgan concludes that CD Projekt RED still has time to optimize the performance of the console versions of Phantom Liberty. In his opinion, the studio can also implement it “something very special”.
Phantom Liberty will be released on September 26, 2023 for PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series
