The future Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will use proprietary Oryon compute cores, replacing the semi-custom Kryo cores. According to Chris Patrick, senior vice president of Qualcomm, using fully custom cores in the processor “doesn’t necessarily mean that these chips will be more expensive.” He also added that the company will try to find a balance between price, power consumption and performance. Unfortunately, in the case of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the balance seems to be tipping towards higher production costs for such processors.

“We expect some price increases for Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as we really push for truly impressive levels of performance.”Patrick said in a comment to Android Authority.

The Qualcomm top manager’s statement also means that the Samsung Galaxy S25, Xiaomi 15, OnePlus 13 and many other flagship smartphones that will be presented in 2025 and will most likely receive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be more expensive than their Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 predecessors.
