Counterpoint Technology Market Research reports that global smartwatch shipments in the last quarter of 2021 set a new quarterly record with over 40 million shipments.
It is noted that the demand for smart watches has practically not grown in 2020 due to the pandemic. Last year, however, sales increased by a quarter – by 24%. This was favored in particular by good demand for devices in the “less than $100” price range.
Apple is the undisputed leader, but the company’s position is weakening under pressure from the competition. As a result, the share of the “Apple” empire fell from 32.9% in 2020 to 30.1% in 2021.
South Korean giant Samsung ranked second: over the course of the year, the company expanded its position from 8.9% to 10.2%. Closing out the top 3 is China’s Huawei, whose share fell from 10.7% to 7.7% over the year.
The biggest players in the market also include imoo, Amazfit, Garmin, Fitbit, Xiaomi and Noise. Overall, the top nine vendors together account for about 73% of the global smartwatch market.
