Smartphone production rises in Q3, but component shortages persist

In the period from July to September inclusive, about 325 million smartphones were produced. This is less compared to the third quarter of 2020 and 2019.

Analysts talk about the continuing shortage of electronic components. There is a shortage of 4G chips, inexpensive 5G products, display control ICs and other elements.

In this situation, TrendForce is forced to downgrade the forecast for the volume of smartphones in 2021 to 1.335 billion units instead of the previously named value of 1.345 billion units. Thus, the increase in relation to 2020 will be no more than 6.5%.
