According to online sources, the development of Apple’s mixed reality headset is in full swing, and Pegatron will be its main manufacturer. It is expected that the serial production of new items will start in March next year and their announcement can be made in April.
First of all, the production of the headset will be very limited and due to the high price, the device will mainly be aimed at commercial markets, according to sources. Earlier media reported that Apple intends to ship 2.5 million headsets a year. Now, however, industry sources say the volume of annual shipments will range from 700 to 800,000 units.
For component manufacturers who benefit from the quantities produced, this order will not be very profitable. Despite the low profitability of the production of the first Apple headset, the American company’s partners are ready to work on this project in order to confirm their technical competence and strengthen their position as a manufacturer of future Apple headsets.
According to the available data, Apple has been working on the development of augmented, virtual and mixed reality headsets for several years. Rumor has it that the IT giant ran into some issues while developing headsets, causing it to falter a bit. It was initially assumed that Apple would present its first headset to the general public later this year.
In the middle of the year, leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the presentation of Apple’s augmented reality headset will most likely take place in January 2023. The new information from industry sources is broadly in line with Kuo’s prediction, which previously indicated that Apple won’t start accepting pre-orders to purchase a mixed reality headset until Q2 2023.
