Sega opens new in-house studio in Japan

Sega Publishing announced Foundation of a new development studio in Sapporo, Japan. The division was given the uncomplicated name Sega Sapporo Studio.

Sega Sapporo Studio is headed by Sega veteran Takaya Segawa, who has been with the company since 1992. For the past ten years, the specialist has worked as a senior producer for Phantasy Star Online 2.

A press release on the opening of the new studio announced that Sega Sapporo Studio will be involved in both developing and debugging / testing games based on Sega’s intellectual property.

Sega Sapporo Studio is Sega’s second development base in Japan (the first is in Tokyo). The official opening of the new studio took place on December 1, 2021, but the announcement came only now.

Sega previously entered into a strategic partnership with Microsoft, within the framework of which the “Supergame” initiative is to be promoted – the production of new and innovative games with a focus on globalization, online and community.
