The Galaxy S23 Tactical complies with the IP68 protection standard, which means that the smartphone can be submerged at a depth of up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes without affecting its performance. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2+ and in addition to the protected Armor Aluminum frame, the tactical version of the Galaxy S23 received a special full cover that protects against drops and bumps and also supports mounting on the forearm or chest.

The XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition is IP68 rated and comes with a military-grade MIL-STD-810H housing. For example, the device withstands a fall from a height of approx. 1.5 m without loss of functionality and continues to function, even in a wide temperature range. Actually, the regular XCover 6 Pro has the same protection, but the XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition uses a removable battery.

Both the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition come preloaded with apps like the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) and the Battlefield Assisted Trauma Distributed Observation Kit (BATDOK). The first provides information about the surrounding terrain, ensures accurate targeting, navigation and data exchange. The second collects data on the condition of the owner using wired and wireless sensors.

Both smartphones reportedly meet US military electronics requirements and also come standard with Samsung Knox and Knox Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR) platforms protection. The latter, for example, uses two independent layers of encryption for extra security. The data on the device remains protected even if the smartphone is not powered or the owner has failed the authentication process. In addition, new products comply with the requirements of the US NSA for the protection of confidential data.

Both smartphones support Samsung DeX data transmission technology and enable monitor, keyboard and mouse connection directly in the field without the intermediary of a computer or laptop. Samsung says the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition uses an intelligent power management mode to provide extra power to complete the mission.

There are other important features as well. For example, a night vision mode (with the connection of additional optics), a stealth mode that allows you to turn off all communications, from LTE to emergency contacts. It can also connect to tactical radio systems, drone cameras and laser rangefinders, and external GPS devices. Thanks to the automatic sensor adjustment, you can also use smartphones with gloves.

Finally, the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, while the XCover 6 Pro Tactical Edition is powered by the Snapdragon 778G chipset. According to Samsung, these smartphones are the only devices that end users need for mission planning, training, operations and everyday use.
