According to publication Business Korea, Samsung Electronics’ newly formed new business strategy team has added two new arrivals from Sweden’s Ericsson as the Korean giant looks to expand its telecom equipment expertise. In view of the pressure from the USA on the core business of the Chinese Huawei Technologies, the course taken by the Korean competitor should be justified.

Henrik Jansson, formerly of Ericsson, has taken charge of Samsung’s new business strategy team. At the same time, the development of Samsung’s profile activities in Europe and sales in the region were entrusted to another Ericsson native, Cho Mi-seon. According to the South Korean publication, CEO Lee Jae-yong (Lee Jae-yong, pictured right) has chosen targeting telecom equipment as one of the priorities for Samsung Electronics.
Last November, Samsung completed the delivery of 5G devices to Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo. The heads of the companies met for technical negotiations as early as 2021. The Korean provider was also able to conclude a contract with the American telecom operator DISH Network. The Samsung boss had previously managed to agree on the delivery of equipment for 5G communication networks from the American operator Verizon in 2020. In the US market, local authorities have banned operators from using devices from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE, giving the Korean provider the opportunity to do so.
