Samsung Electronics commented on the rumors that have surfaced on the web that the development of proprietary Exynos processors for mobile devices may be stopped. The South Korean giant said that this information was not true.
Recently, rumors surfaced on the Internet that Samsung plans to curtail the development of the Exynos family of chips in favor of a new project. A new series of Galaxy processors for smartphones, tablets and other gadgets is said to be available by 2025. At Samsung, among other things, this information is denied.
“We are currently revising our Systems-on-a-Chip (SoC) business model and developing a strategy to increase competitiveness in the medium to long term.said Pi Jae-gul, Vice President of Samsung System LSI.
He added that Samsung intends to expand the use of branded mobile chips. They are expected to find applications in wearables, laptop modems and Wi-Fi products. To this end, cooperation with industrial partners is being expanded.
Strategy Analytics estimates that by 2021, Samsung processors will account for 6.6% of mobile devices. The top three spots went to Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Apple, which accounted for 37.7%, 26.3%, and 26% of the market, respectively.
