Saints Row’s development veterans have joined forces to form a new studio and have already started helping Microsoft with a new Xbox exclusive

The American Volition, known for the series Saints Row and Red Faction, was closed by the holding company Embracer Group after 30 years of work, but the studio veterans did not give up on their favorite business and united to a new team – Shapeshifter Games.

Shapeshifter Games is based in the American city of Champaign, Illinois and positions itself as a studio that will help other developers and publishers create their AAA games.

According to the professional social network LinkedIn, Shapeshifter Games specializes in open-world games, Unreal Engine 5, console production and collaborative development.

This is what Shapeshifter Games said in a release announcing the existence of the studio “Already working closely with a leading publisher to develop their next great IP”.

Accordingly Summary Artist Andrew Nelson, who came to Shapeshifter from Ascendant Studios (Immortals of Aveum), said this “leading publisher” is Xbox Game Studios.

The head of Shapeshifter became the former finance director of Volition Matt Madigan. He was joined by the producer Rob Loftus and creative director of Saints Row Brian Trafficante.

Will wasn’t the only casualty of Embracer’s restructuring. The holding fired more than 900 employees, dissolved Free Radical Design, ordered the closure of Piranha Bytes, canceled the new Deus Ex and much more.
