Sabrent showed SSD with read speeds over 12,000 MB/s

Despite promises from SSD manufacturers to release models with PCIe 5.0 and read speeds of up to 14,000 MB/s, most drives presented so far can only work with speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s with this interface. Sabrent is developing a PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD capable of reading and writing speeds in excess of 12,000MB/s.

As previously mentioned, Sabrent is developing new Sabrent Rocket X5 Gen5 drives in close collaboration with Phison, a developer of controllers for SSDs. The manufacturer recently confirmed that the new SSD at the current stage of development has broken the 12GB/s read speed barrier, clocking in at 12,390.8MB/s in the CrystalDiskMark benchmark. At the same time, the media writing speed reached almost 12 GB/s – the result was 11,844.78 MB/s. Both values are very impressive, but still a long way from the previously promised speed of 14,000 MB/s.

“We are focused on improving these indicators [скорости и чтения] as much as possible”— commented in Sabrent.

Sabrent makes some of the fastest SSDs on the market. Therefore, its claims that it will be able to squeeze even more speed out of PCIe 5.0 SSDs are beyond doubt. In fact, the main problem at the moment is memory bandwidth: for this reason, it is simply unrealistic to provide the desired 14 GB / s for the time being.

Development of the Sabrent Rocket X5 Gen5 drives themselves is ongoing. The company cannot yet say when this new product will be launched.
