Ryzen 5 5500 with six cores is up to 4.4% slower than Ryzen 5 5600G in Geekbench

AMD recently added four new models to its Ryzen 5000 (Vermeer) processor lineup. One of the new products was the Ryzen 5 5500 with 6 cores and 12 threads. The first results of his performance test appeared in the Geekbench 5 database.

The chip was tested on an MSI MEG X570 Godlike motherboard with 16 GB DDR4-3600 RAM. The processor achieved 1468 points in a single-thread test and 7629 points in a multi-thread test. Thus, its single-threaded performance was 4.4% lower than that of the six-core hybrid Ryzen 5 5600G model, and multi-threaded performance was only 1.3% lower. Against the background of the Ryzen 5 5600X, the novelty turned out to be 12.3% slower in a single-threaded test, and by 9.3% in a multi-threaded test.

Since the same Core i5-12400 is faster than the Ryzen 5 5600X in the Geekbench test, it’s pretty obvious that the gap between the Ryzen 5 5500 and it has gotten even bigger. The Alder Lake chip offers 20% and 17.2% faster single-thread and multi-thread performance in Geekbench 5 compared to the Ryzen 5 5500, respectively.

The AMD Ryzen 5 5500 processor costs $159. The Ryzen 5 5600 starts at $199. And with recent price drops, the Ryzen 5 5600X is down to $225. With that in mind, however, the $180 Core i5-12400F seems like a better option. But only for a new PC.

Keep in mind that the Ryzen 5 5500 got 16MB of L3 cache with a 3.6-4.2GHz frequency range, which is half of what the Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 5 5600G models offer in the frequency ranges operate from 3.7 to 4.6 GHz or 3.5-4.4 GHz.

We can safely assume that the Ryzen 5 5500 is built on the same chip as the Ryzen 5 5600G hybrid model, but with integrated Vega graphics disabled. True, the differences do not end there. The base frequency of the Ryzen 5 5600G is 3.9 GHz and the maximum frequency is 4.4 GHz, which is 300 and 200 MHz higher than the Ryzen 5 5500. All of this is included in the price of the Ryzen 5 5600G, which is $259 .
