portal axios citing two sources that Supermassive Games’ teen horror The Quarry and Squanch Games’ comedy shooter High on Life were originally heavily linked to Google’s Stadia cloud service.
According to Axios, Google was involved in the development of both games and positioned them as iconic Stadia games (designed to attract players to the service) before ending its exclusive development program for the service in February 2021.
As a result, the games went their separate ways: The Quarry took over 2K (Supermassive was looking for a publishing partner and the company was happy to help), and High on Life was self-published by Squanch Games.
Keep in mind that Google announced a partnership with Supermassive Games back in 2020, but the parties haven’t shared the details of the collaboration. The Quarry was announced in March 2022.
The Quarry debuted on June 10th on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. High on Life is also slated for release on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S in October as Game Pass (PC and Xbox).
