Rumours: Canceled Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel was made with Elden Ring in mind and didn’t look like other Ubisoft games

Recall that in 2022 Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb said that the Immortals sequel is codenamed Oxygen and is based on Hawaiian-Polynesian mythology rather than ancient Greek.

Axios sources add that Oxygen was inspired by Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and should move away from the established Ubisoft formula for open-world gaming (with a plethora of markers) and offer more realistic visuals Style.

Oxygen was set to take place in a fictional Polynesian archipelago, with islands resembling New Zealand, Tahiti, Easter Island, Hawaii, and other locations. Polynesian consultants were involved in the work.

Players were invited to create their own character, earn the favor of the Polynesian gods, gain the power of the elements, and reincarnation. The choices made during the game would be reflected in the form of tattoos on the hero’s body and the world around him.

According to an Axios source, Oxygen was so different from the rest of the Ubisoft catalog that the game was considered a standalone game, separate from the Immortals Fenyx Rising brand.

Ubisoft Quebec acquired Oxygen in 2021 and development has dragged on – by spring 2023 the team only had an internal demo ready for a few hours. As part of a cost-cutting initiative, Ubisoft dropped the project in July, to the surprise of its makers.
