Codename Rift, originally planned as an add-on to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, evolved into a full-fledged game in late 2021, according to Schreier, and is expected to launch in late 2022 or 2023.

The main role in The Rift will reportedly fall to Basim ibn Ishaq, the assassin character from Valhalla. The scope of the game will be smaller than the usual Assassin’s Creed (it will do without a large open world), and the emphasis will be on stealth mechanics.

Ubisoft declined to comment on Bloomberg’s findings, but assured through a spokesman that it did “A strong and exciting set of projects within established brands, with new twists and mechanics, as well as new intellectual property rights”.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity release is still a long way off and Ubisoft is currently focused on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, with the massive Dawn of Ragnarok expansion going on sale on March 10th.
