Rock Band becomes Epic Games’ Music Journey for Fortnite

Published and developed by Epic Games on its official website announced the acquisition of American studio Harmonix, best known for its Rock Band and Dance Central music franchises.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed, but it is known that Harmonix as part of Epic Games will primarily develop “Musical travel and gameplay” for the shareware Fortnite Battle Royale.

In addition, Harmonix will continue to support existing projects including Rock Band 4. in the blog the studio has assured that it is not going to remove its games from Steam and other stores.

“In our work to create the metaverse, their expertise is essential to rethink how music is felt, created and distributed.”, – commented on the acquisition of Epic Games.

The last standalone Harmonix game will be the Fuser DJ simulator. The project debuted in November 2020 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
