“Reminds me of the situation with Crysis in 2007”: NVIDIA showed how Cyberpunk 2077 will look like in Ray Tracing: Overdrive mode with path tracing

As a reminder, RT: Overdrive features path tracing, more accurate RT lighting and shadows thanks to RTX Direct Illumination technology, better indirect lighting, and full-resolution ray-traced reflections.

Progress requires sacrifice: In a recent interview, CD Projekt RED and NVIDIA confirmed that for good performance with RT: Overdrive is required “extremely powerful PC” with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series graphics card.

In the published 1.5 minute video, NVIDIA demonstrates what Cyberpunk 2077 looks like with and without path tracing (comparative screenshots below), as well as the effect of using DLSS 3 with RT: Overdrive mode.

Viewers in the comments appreciated the graphics of RT: Overdrive, noting that they are inaccessible to many players. “I think it’s great that there are technologies that are superior to modern hardware. This means we can get more out of the game in the future. Reminds me of the situation with Crysis in 2007″analyses Nexter420.

NVIDIA highlights what RT: Overdrive will offer gamers “The most advanced real-time lighting in gaming today” and let me see how “All games will look to the future”.

RT: Overdrive will be released for the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 on April 11th with patch 1.62, but only as part of the technology preview. NVIDIA continues to work with CDPR on path tracing improvements and optimizations.
