The battle for dominance in the smartphone market continues unabated and manufacturers are constantly striving to outdo each other in terms of performance, technology and innovation. July 2023 saw a relative lull in the Android smartphone market as most companies used this time to make adjustments ahead of the traditional announcements in the second half of the year. Despite this lull, several devices have achieved impressive performance figures.
The RedMagic 8S Pro gaming smartphone, powered by an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor, once again took first place among flagship Android smartphones with an impressive average score of 1,633,002 points. Its victory came as no surprise given the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset’s apparent superiority over its competitors, including the Dimensity 9200.
The iQOO 11S took second place with an average score of 1,629,470. Despite rumors of an overclocked 3.36GHz Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chip, iQOO went with the regular 3.2GHz version, which still delivers impressive performance, especially with the right power and cooling settings.
Vivo X90 Pro+ completes the top three – the flagship model launched 9 months ago. Continued excellence in looks, feel, camera and performance earned it a respectable third place with an average score of 1,611,508.
Two models with Snapdragon 7+ Gen2 processors held their ground in the sub-flagship market. First place was taken by the Redmi Note12 Turbo with an average score of 1,150,430, followed by the Realme GT Neo5 SE with a score of 1,131,196. Both phones offer high performance at an affordable price, making them good choices for consumers on a budget.
Third place went to iQOO Neo7 SE, equipped with a Dimensity 8200 processor. Despite impressive performance, the higher price of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen2 prevented its rise in the market – most manufacturers trying to keep the product within the price range use cheaper chipsets.
With the arrival in August, the smartphone battle for top performance will intensify, leaving consumers with more powerful and innovative devices to look forward to in the coming months. Competition is intensifying and the race for smartphone supremacy is far from over.
