Qualcomm will transfer orders for the production of TSMC chips – Samsung has problems with a high marriage

The management of Samsung Electronics already had to answer the question of the reasons for the high error rate in 5 nm chips in the middle of the past month, but those responsible recognized the existing situation as inevitable and correctable. According to some sources, Qualcomm is tired of putting up with such nuances, and therefore will even shift the production of 7nm chips to the TSMC pipeline, and not just 5nm chips.

According to information Yahoo Finance, Qualcomm, which several years ago seriously bet on Samsung lithography, is now considering the possibility of starting the production not only of flagship 5nm processors, but also of mid-range solutions, including those with 7nm technology manufactured, to shift quickly to the competing TSMC pipeline. According to unofficial data, Samsung offered Qualcomm a 35-50% yield level of suitable 5nm and 4nm processors, which clearly could not do justice to the American customer.

In addition to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processors, TSMC is also expected to launch Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 generation products expanded. With MediaTek products, they have to fight for a spot not only in the smartphone market but also in the TSMC pipeline as the quotas for advanced lithography from a Taiwanese contractor are limited and there are many people who want to get one for you.

Some slowdown in the smartphone market, caused by a number of factors, will prompt processor designers to pay more attention to other segments — high-performance computing, artificial intelligence systems, and driver assistance systems. Qualcomm and MediaTek need to expand their offerings in this space and increase competition between them.
