Qualcomm introduced the single-chip Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 platform – as previously reported, this is the latest chip for mid-range smartphones that will replace the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The new chip will be 50% faster than its predecessor and 13% faster than its predecessor. more energy efficient. In addition, it received support for 200-megapixel cameras, VRS technology for gaming and the lossless compression codec Qualcomm aptX. And the AI Super Resolution function improves the image in games and photo quality.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will feature some of the features found in the Snapdragon 8-series chips – the novelty being the first mid-range processor to receive a Cortex-X2 core. The maximum frequency is 2.91 GHz. Another novelty received three Cortex-A710 cores with a frequency of up to 2.49 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz. CPU performance has increased by more than 50% compared to its predecessor and GPU performance has doubled. Energy efficiency increased by 13%.
In addition, the new platform features Snapdragon Elite Gaming, which, among other things, offers support for Variable Shading Rate (VRS) to optimize the rendering of objects such as smoke and fog in games. Snapdragon Sound supports Qualcomm aptX lossless audio compression codec.
There’s also support for 200-megapixel cameras (or three 32-megapixel cameras) and optimized HDR video recording. The 18-bit Spectra Triple ISP module lets you take up to 30 low-light shots and combine them into one brighter, sharper photo. Qualcomm also says the chipset allows the camera to capture more than 4,000 times more information for a wider dynamic range.
Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 received a Snapdragon X62 5G Modem RF modem with support for two SIM card activity simultaneously for 4G and 5G networks. Offers download speeds of up to 4.4 Gbps. The Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 modem offers Wi-Fi 6 connectivity at up to 3.6 Gbps.
AI-related work delivers 40% better performance per watt than last year’s chipset. The new mobile platform received support for intelligent image resolution scaling in games and photos using the AI Super Resolution feature.
The presented platform is used by many smartphone manufacturers, but the first devices are released by Xiaomi (Redmi) and Realme. According to Qualcomm, the chipset will be introduced in smartphones later this month. Details can be found on the Qualcomm website.
