The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 packs an octa-core CPU with three core clusters. The strongest Kryo Prime core has a clock speed of 3.2 GHz. Four powerful cores follow at a frequency of 2.8 GHz and the last three energy-efficient cores with a frequency of 2.0 GHz. Note that the predecessor had three powerful and four energy-efficient cores in the last two clusters. According to Qualcomm, the new CPU is 35% faster and 40% more energy efficient than the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU.

The novelty is also equipped with an advanced Hexagon AI processor, which will allow smartphones on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, among other things, to better cope with online translation into different languages and the perception of voice commands. According to the manufacturer, the new platform’s AI subsystem delivers 4.35 times the performance of its predecessor. Due to its signal processor, the platform presented is compatible with the 200 megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensor, which has been specially optimized for this processor. The function of automatically correcting errors in photos and videos by AI is supported.

Note that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 adds support for the AV1 codec with the ability to play 8K HDR video at 60 frames per second (although you can only record in 8K at 30fps). It is noted that the updated graphics accelerator Adreno offers 25% faster performance compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 single-chip platforms are manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process technology.

Note that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the most advanced mobile platform with support for fifth generation (5G) communication networks. Work in 5G networks is provided by the Snapdragon X70 5G modem (transfer rate up to 10 Gbps). Developers have also implemented support for FastConnect 7800 technology, which provides Wi-Fi 7 connectivity with minimal latency and speeds up to 5.8 Gbps.

“We strive to empower people to do more, which is why we design Snapdragon with all users in mind. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will revolutionize flagship smartphones in 2023— Chris Patrick, Qualcomm’s vice president and head of the company’s mobile division, is certain.
