Recall that Sony reported 20 million PlayStation 5 sales in early June 2022, and as of September 30, total console sales worldwide have reached 25 million.
In the past three months, the console has chalked up another 5 million to its account – December 2022 turned out to be the most successful month for the device in its history. With this, the total sales of the PS5 exceeded 30 million systems.
The nearly global PS5 price hike in August hasn’t slowed sales
Ryan thanked the PlayStation community for their support and patience: this isn’t the only thing Sony Interactive Entertainment has struggled with over the past two years “Unprecedented Demand” on PS5, but also by the worldwide lack of specialized components.
“By the end of last year, the PS5 supply situation had improved… For anyone who wants a PS5, it will be easier to find from now on [консоль] in retail stores around the world”assures Ryan.
PS4 is still outselling PS5
The PlayStation 5 took just under 26 months (785 days) to reach the coveted mark, while the PlayStation 4 hit 30 million faster – it took Sony’s previous generation consoles just over two years (738 days).
At CES 2023, Sony announced, among other things, two new games for the PlayStation VR2 headset, showed a teaser trailer for the Gran Turismo film and introduced the Project Leonardo controller for people with disabilities.
