The new Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphones support fast charging up to 45W, a significant improvement over the previous generation’s 25W charging. But in reality, the improvement turned out to be not so tangible, since the original Samsung charger provides maximum power for a very short period of time.

The Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra don’t come with a charger, so users will have to purchase a $50 45-watt power adapter separately. Enthusiasts tested the charging speed of the Galaxy S22 Ultra with a 5000mAh battery. It turned out that topping up energy takes 62 minutes with a 45-watt device and 70 minutes with a 25-watt device. Although the difference should be, if not double, then much more noticeable.
The 45W charger for the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra is reportedly compatible with Samsung Fast Charging 2.0, while the previous generation 25W charger supports Fast Charging. During testing, enthusiasts found that the new 45-watt charger only maintains maximum output for a minute, while output is in the 30-watt range most of the time. That explains why the difference isn’t that noticeable when using a 45 and 25 watt charger.

The source notes that limiting the power of the charger can help extend battery life over the long term. However, with this approach, users will not benefit much from buying a 45W charger if they already have a 25W charger in stock.
