Pressure from players forced developer Abandoned to turn to Konami

Blue Box Game Studios CEO Hasan Kahraman recently revealed on a Sacred Symbols podcast that he’s been in touch with publisher Konami about the situation surrounding their survival shooter Abandoned.

Recall that shortly after the announcement of Abandoned (codename), fans saw in one of the developers’ teasers a clear reference to the project’s connection with Silent Hill, which Blue Box Game Studios had to urgently deny.

According to Kahraman, the pressure and stress caused by player speculation forced him to contact Konami – the publisher of Silent Hill – to try and explain the situation to the owner of the cult horror franchise.

“I contacted them because I was concerned that people would accept [Abandoned] for Silenthill. Everything got out of control. And we’re just a small studio with no experience and a big audience.”— quotes the Kahraman edition Chronicle of Video Games.

Apparently, the Japanese publisher reacted with understanding to the situation at Blue Box Game Studios: “I approached Konami and told them that this development was not in my plans and they accepted it as perfectly normal.”.

Only recently Blue Box had to deny rumors about the cancellation of Abandoned. As the studio assured, work is continuing on the presentation in the Abandoned: Realtime Experience application and prologue.

Abandoned is being made for PC and PlayStation 5. The main advantages of their game in Blue Box Game Studios are “new narrative”, “realistic gameplay” and “Cinema Experience”.
