AMD announced its EPYC Milan-X series of server processors with 3D V-Cache technology in November last year. The company has not announced the exact release date of the Milan X chips, only announced that they will go on sale in the first quarter of 2022 – apparently that is why the late test samples have already come onto the market. The heart of the Milan X processors are the same Zen 3 cores and the same 7 nm process technology as the Milan chips. The flagship EPYC 7773X, which emerged from the Chinese supplier, offers 64 cores, support for 128 threads and 768 MB L3 cache thanks to 3D V cache technology. Its TDP reaches 280 W with a base clock of 2.2 GHz and a peak value of 3.5 GHz.

Back in August, one of the largest B2B retailers published the price of this processor on its website and it amounted to an impressive $ 10,746.99. Unsurprisingly, the seller on Taobao charges a little more than a quarter of the price of the pre-production model EPYC 7773X – it is not entirely legal to sell such goods, and the technical characteristics of the instance presented on the website do not match the last ones : The base clock frequency is 2.1 GHz, which is 100 MHz less as stated by the manufacturer, and the peak is not displayed at all. Milan-X processors do not require a motherboard upgrade and fit in the same SP3 socket as Milan. However, it is possible that a firmware update is required.
