Phison showed the fastest consumer SSD – write speeds over 14 GB/s

At Flash Memory Summit 2023, Phison unveiled what it claims is the world’s fastest consumer SSD, the PS5026-E26 Max14um Gen5, which delivers sequential read speeds in excess of 14GB/s. The device also received an advanced ultrasonic cooling unit from Frore.

The drive is based on Micron B58R 3D TLC NAND memory chips and the Phison PC5026-E26 controller – the combination of these allowed us to achieve sequential read speeds of 14175 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 12,471 MB/s and 1.79 million E /A operations per second for random reads and 1.74 million for random writes.

The solid state drive PS5026-E26 Max14um Gen5 turned out to be even slightly faster than the Sabrent drive with an E26 controller, which is designed for the enterprise segment and was presented a month ago. To achieve such speeds, Phison had to tweak the firmware and install a cooling module – which became Frore Systems’ AirJet mini ultrasonic unit.

Phison hasn’t specified whether the company will supply reference samples of the PS5026-E26 Max14um Gen5 to its partners, or whether they will have to develop solutions of this level themselves.
