Live A Live RPG lead Takashi Tokita in a recent interview with Famitsu uncoveredhow long it took the team to create the upcoming remake.
According to Tokita, the team adopted the Live A Live update in early 2019 and spent three years producing it. At the same time, the director notes that the cycle could have been longer if the authors had not immediately decided on the graphic style.
“Choosing the format (2D or 3D) in pre-production takes about six months. The fact that we didn’t have to do that was extremely important. We had no doubt HD 2D would be great for Super Famicom games.”said Tokita.
Due to the structure of Live A Live, the implementation of HD 2D was more difficult than expected. Also, the team had to work in parallel with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which also slowed down the process.
Live A Live Remake will be available on Nintendo Switch on July 22nd. The original game, which was never released outside of Japan, debuted in September 1994 and featured seven characters in seven different historical eras.
