OnePlus could return to producing “flagship killers” – affordable smartphones with powerful features

During its formative years, OnePlus has built a reputation for offering flagship smartphones at an affordable price. The company’s devices have even been dubbed the “flagship killer.” OnePlus smartphones have increased in price over time, equating this indicator with flagship products from other manufacturers. However, now it seems that the brand wants to return to its roots.

The authoritative Chinese tech blog Digital Chat Station stated that OnePlus is working on a new range of smartphones, the main features of which will be high performance and gaming orientation, as well as an affordable price. It is reported that smartphones of the new series will cost from 315 to 475 US dollars in China. As a rule, the cost of smartphones in other countries exceeds the Chinese, but the prices of new products are unlikely to reach the level of other flagships.

Digital Chat Station reports that the new series of smartphones will be built on the basis of flagship chipsets and will receive flat displays. More precise characteristics, including models of chipsets used, are not disclosed. Potentially, this could either be the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or MediaTek Dimensity 9000, or solutions from years past, such as the Snapdragon 888, which is also very good for the price quoted.

It is believed that in order to lower the cost of new products, OnePlus will make a number of compromises, such as cameras, moisture protection, wireless charging support or other minor features. Unfortunately, there are no further details on OnePlus’ new “flagship killers” yet, but they will probably appear soon.
