NVIDIA showed off The Lord of the Rings: Gollum with ray tracing and revealed the system requirements for playing in 4K, but again, it wasn’t without its embarrassment

Gamers have barely steered away from the latest “appetite” adaptation of the PC version of stealth action-adventure The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, like NVIDIA introduced full system requirements from Nacon Project and Daedalic Entertainment.

As has become known, the system requirements of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum presented last week correspond to the recommended configuration without ray tracing and high – with ray tracing.

Apparently, when laying out the system requirements table, an error crept into the process: in the image below, the video memory size is shown instead of the RAM size.

The system requirements for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum are divided into seven configurations – three with ray tracing and four without. For game without ray tracing you will need:

Minimum Requirements (1080p, 30 frames, low graphics settings)

  • Operating system: Windows 10, 11 (64-bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4660 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or RTX 2060;
  • Video memory: 6 GB;
  • working memory: no specification;
  • Storage space: 45 GB (hard disk).

Recommended Requirements (1080p, 60 fps, medium graphics settings)

  • Operating system: Windows 10, 11 (64-bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060;
  • Video memory: 6 GB;
  • Memory: 16GB;
  • Storage space: 45 GB (SSD).

High requirements (1440p, 60 fps, high graphics settings)

  • Operating system: Windows 10, 11 (64-bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (with DLSS in quality mode);
  • Video memory: 8 GB;
  • RAM: not specified, but not less than 16 GB;
  • Storage space: 45 GB (SSD).

Requirements “Ultra” (2160p, 60 fps, maximum graphics settings)

  • Operating system: Windows 10, 11 (64-bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (with DLSS in performance mode)
  • Video memory: 8GB
  • RAM: not specified, but not less than 16 GB;
  • Storage space: 45 GB (SSD).

With the inclusion of ray tracing, the stakes rise significantly: ray tracing in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum requires a minimum of a GeForce RTX 3060 and a maximum of a GeForce RTX 4080.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum system requirements to play with ray tracing looks like this:

Ray tracing “minimum” (1080p, 60 fps, medium graphics settings, low ray tracing settings)

  • Operating system: Windows 10, 11 (64-bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (with DLSS in quality mode);
  • Video memory: 8 GB;
  • RAM: not specified, but not less than 16 GB;
  • Storage space: 45 GB (SSD).

Ray tracing “High” (1440p, 60 fps, high graphics and ray tracing settings)

  • Operating system: Windows 10, 11 (64-bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (with DLSS in quality mode);
  • Video memory: 10 GB;
  • Memory: 32GB;
  • Storage space: 45 GB (SSD).

Ultra Raytracing (2160p, 60 fps, graphics and raytracing settings maxed out)

  • Operating system: Windows 10, 11 (64-bit);
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600;
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 (with DLSS in quality mode);
  • Video memory: 16 GB;
  • RAM: not specified, but not less than 32 GB;
  • Storage space: 45 GB (SSD).

Along with the announcement of the final (but apparently incomplete due to RAM) system requirements, NVIDIA also presented a video showing a demonstration of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum with ray tracing.

Despite the “gameplay” status, there’s virtually no direct gameplay of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum in the (almost) minute-and-a-half trailer. Gamers didn’t particularly like the video: more than 750 dislikes for 360 likes.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available on May 25th on PC (Steam, EGS), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S and on Nintendo Switch before the end of the year. In addition to ray tracing, the PC version will get support for DLSS 3, DLSS 2, Reflex, and NIS technologies at launch.
