NVIDIA presented technical features of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

NVIDIA released on its official website notededicated to technical changes in the Phantom Liberty add-on to the action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077. Using new screenshots and trailers, the company demonstrated the functionality of key technologies: DLSS 3.5, path tracing and ray reconstruction.

Thanks to path tracking, almost all light sources cast physically correct, soft shadows. NVIDIA itself believes that gamers should appreciate improved shadows with greater depth and detail.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a full day/night cycle. To improve indirect illumination of all radiation sources, including the sun and moon, global illumination must also be taken into account. A unified rendering algorithm was developed specifically for this purpose, which ensures more accurate lighting of scenes and objects.

According to NVIDIA, the combined full ray tracing of direct and global lighting gives gamers the most advanced real-time lighting ever seen in gaming.

DLSS 3.5 will arrive in Cyberpunk 2077 with the game’s 2.0 update, releasing on September 21st. When Ray Tracing: Overdrive is enabled, new Ray Reconstruction technology improves the quality and clarity of reflections. At the same time, global illumination is becoming even more precise.

Ray reconstruction technology in DLSS 3.5 replaces multiple manually tuned ray tracing “noises” with a new unified AI model that improves not only the quality of ray tracing, but also the overall performance of the game. In support of the latter thesis, NVIDIA published graphics with the results of graphics card tests in various resolutions.

The Phantom Liberty expansion will launch on September 26th for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S.
