The crossover will add a new storyline. Classic Castlevania characters Richter Belmont and Alucard will accompany the hero throughout the adventure, helping him navigate the labyrinths of Dracula’s castle and unlock powerful weapons.

“Suddenly, a gate to an amazing castle appears and a warrior named Richter asks you to help defeat the great evil that dwells within., says the description. — Lured by the prospect of new loot and with no moral obligation, the hero weaves his way through the surroundings and corridors of the Gothic castle to find and kill the mysterious Dracula…”

The add-on also offers the following:

  • two biomes with numerous references to Castlevania – secret rooms, flame-lit corridors, tombs, beautiful paintings and foods hidden in the walls;
  • 14 classic weapons remastered for the dynamic gameplay of Dead Cells, including the vampire killer whip, throwing axe, and holy water;
  • new enemies – harpies, werewolves, possessed armor and others;
  • three “Epos” boss fights, including Death and Dracula;
  • 20 character costumes from the series including Richter Belmont, Simon Belmont, Trevor Belmont, Alucard, Maria Renard, Sypha Belnades and Dracula
  • New Music – 12 remixes of Castlevania’s most famous compositions (including Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears and The Theme by Simon Belmont) plus 51 original tracks inspired by the series.

addition was announced in December 2022. Then the developers said that they “somehow” Konami managed to approve the development of the crossover and admitted that they want to pay tribute to the series that inspired Dead Cells. They also released an animated trailer.

Return to Castlevania will be released on PC in the first quarter of 2023 (exact dates unknown) (steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. The price is $10, which is double what the authors usually charge for DLC.

Dead Cells is also available for iOS and Android.
