Noctua unveils understated NH-D12L dual-tower cooler with 120mm fan

Noctua has introduced the NH-D12L CPU cooler and NF-A12x25r 120mm low-profile fan, both used as part of the new cooling system and sold separately. The height of the new cooler is 145mm, which is 13mm less than traditional coolers with 120mm fans from this manufacturer. The NH-D12L uses five heat pipes.

The manufacturer points out that the NH-D12L fits into most computer cases, including compact tower, SFF and Mini-ITX form factor models that typically use CO with 92mm fans. The novelty also fits into a 4 U high server housing. That being said, the NH-D12L is a much more efficient 92mm model. In addition, its performance exceeds that of the 120mm NH-U12S and is on par with the 120mm flagship NH-U12A. The NH-D12L measures 145 x 125 x 113 mm and weighs 890 grams.

Thanks to its asymmetrical design, the NH-D12L does not overlap any RAM slot on motherboards with processor sockets LGA1700, LGA1200 and LGA115x as well as AMD Socket AM4 with which it is compatible. This allows RAM modules of any height to be used with the NH-D12L, including those with very large RGB heatsinks.

The new NF-A12x25r fan is an updated model of the Noctua NF-A12x25 that was launched in 2018 and is rightly considered one of the most efficient solutions in 120×25mm on the market. The updated fan model has received a rounded body and offers the same efficiency and quiet operation. It offers maximum airflow at 102.1 m3/h The noise level does not exceed 22.6 dBA. The manufacturer specifies 150,000 operating hours for a new fan before it fails.

The NH-D12L cooler comes with additional fasteners that allow you to install a second identical NF-A12x25r fan on it. However, in this case you will have to sacrifice either a RAM slot or the height of the cooler itself, which is more than 145 mm, since when installing the module in the first slot, the fan will have to be raised a little higher.

The NH-D12L cooler comes with NT-H1 proprietary thermal paste and an updated SecuFirm2 mounting mechanism that adds support for the Intel LGA 1700 processor socket as well as the future AMD socket AM5 platform.

To the NH-D12L is announced 6 year guarantee. The manufacturer estimates the cooler at 89.90 euros. If desired, it’s possible to purchase the NF-A12x25r fan separately, which the company has priced at €29.90 ($29.90).
