portal PCGamesN I noticed that the PC version of Housemarque studio’s sci-fi roguelike shooter Returnal met system requirements after debuting at The Game Awards 2022.

As it became known thanks open on Steam Back to the page, to run the game on a PC you need an Intel Core i5-6400 processor at 2.7 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB and 16 GB RAM.

The requirements for the return system are as follows:

minimum requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit, version 1903);
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 @ 2.7GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X @ 3.5GHz
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)
  • Memory: 16GB;
  • Storage space: 60 GB (SSD recommended).

Recommended Requirements

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit, version 1903);
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700 @ 3.7GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X @ 3.7GHz
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 (8GB) or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (12GB)
  • Memory: 32GB;
  • Storage space: 60GB.

    Judging by this screenshot, even for Returnal's Steam page, it wasn't possible to turn the graphics settings to the maximum (Image source: Steam)

PCGamesN journalists note that the requirement for 32GB of RAM is double the requirements of most modern versions. On the other hand, Returnal is not the first game with such an “appetite”.

For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Portal with RTX, as well as the not-yet-released The Invincible, require 32GB of RAM, but their requirements are either explained by maximum graphics settings or poor optimization.

Pre-PC leaks suggest that Returnal will feature ray-traced shadows and reflections, dynamic resolution, and support for DLSS, AMD FSR, and NIS (NVIDIA Image Scaling), although the Steam page doesn’t say anything about it.

Returnal debuted on PS5 in April 2021 and will be released on PC (Steam) in early 2023. The game tells the story of an astronaut Selene who finds herself stuck in a time warp on the exotic planet Atropos.
