New update for Facebook Messenger and Instagram brings support for cross-group chats

Last year Facebook launched cross-platform messaging between Messenger and Instagram apps. Since then, over 70% of Instagram users have upgraded to the new Messenger interface to take advantage of the new feature.

Developing this direction, the company announced about a new app update that will allow users to run cross-over group chats between their Instagram and Messenger contacts. In these chats, it will be possible to add new topics and use custom reactions. It also adds the ability to conduct polls in Messenger and Instagram chats, allowing users to determine group preferences.

Users will still be able to control the list of those who can communicate with them. They will be able to manage who goes to their chat list, who goes to the message request folder, and who cannot send you messages or call you. “To help you feel more present in group chats, we’ve created group typing indicators so you can see when others are writing.”, – said the company.

The company also said it is working on new expressive chat themes “that everyone on Messenger and Instagram will love.”
