Nacon buys developer of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

French publisher Nacon announced on its intention to acquire Daedalic Entertainment for 53 million euros. The announced transaction is expected to close in the course of 2022.

The acquisition will allow Nacon to own several of Daedalic Entertainment’s intellectual property rights and benefit from its publishing and developer activities.

Carsten Fichtelmann, Founder and CEO of Daedalic Entertainment, and Stephan Harms, COO, will remain at the helm of Daedalic Entertainment.

Under the agreement, Daedalic Entertainment will be retained “a high degree of autonomy”and Nacon will support the studio’s future projects through its sales, marketing and publishing teams.

“Together with Nacon, we are taking the next step in expanding our catalog of games created by our team and many incredible indie studios.”— announced Fichtelmann on the occasion of the announcement.

Daedalic Entertainment was founded in Hamburg in 2007 and since then has developed and published over 90 games. The company is known for the Deponia series, The Whispered World, Blackguards and others.

Nacon and Daedalic Entertainment are currently preparing to launch the action-adventure stealth game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The release is expected in the fall for PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
