In fall 2021, MSI launched the Spatium M480 PCIe 4.0 SSD series. Then it included models with volumes of 512 GB, 1 and 2 TB with sequential read speeds of up to 7000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 6800 MB/s. Today the manufacturer introduced the Spatium M480 Pro series – these SSDs offer higher read and write speeds of up to 7400 and 7000 MB/s respectively.

With the Spatium M480 Pro series of drives, the manufacturer dropped the 512GB model but added a 4TB model. The new models use the same Phison E18 memory controller as the Spatium M480 models. Apparently, MSI has used faster DRAM memory in new products and also worked on optimizing the drive software to get faster speed from it.
The 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB Spatium M480 Pro models come with 1GB, 2GB, and 2GB DDR4 cache, respectively. The series includes the regular Spatium M480 Pro models without a heatsink, the HS models with solid aluminum heatsinks, and the Play models, which come with more compact aluminum heatsinks that allow drives to be used with Sony PlayStation 5 gaming consoles.
The manufacturer specifies sequential read speeds of up to 7400 MB/s for all drives in the Spatium M480 Pro series. The sequential write speed is up to 6000 MB/s for the 1 TB SSD version and 7000 MB/s for the 2 and 4 TB variants. Random read performance is 750,000 IOPS for the younger model, for 1 and 2 TB versions – 1 million IOPS. All have a random write performance of 1 million IOPS.
The power consumption of the 1TB model is 9.5W, the 2TB version is 10.5W and the 4TB version is 11.3W. All this fits within the maximum TDP set by JEDEC for carriers of this standard from 11.55 W.
The Spatium M480 Pro Series drives are backed by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
