As it became known earlier this year, some motherboards for Intel Alder Lake processors allow overclocking of all CPU models, even the younger Core i3-12100 and Celeron G6900, which do not officially support this feature. This feature is available on motherboards equipped with external clock generators. Basically, these are very expensive flagship models based on the Intel Z690 chipset, such as ASRock Z690 Aqua or MSI MEG Z690I Unify. However, more affordable boards are now appearing with such an attractive feature.

Previously, MSI released the MAG B660M Mortar WIFI DDR4 board, which we have already reviewed. It doesn’t have an external clock generator, but it’s still an excellent choice for building a powerful gaming rig. Images of the MSI MAG B660M Mortar WIFI Max DDR4 board have been circulating the internet for the past month. Thanks to one of the Twitter users the other day Details are known about newbie.

The board offers four RAM slots with support for up to 128GB of DDR4-4800 memory. There is one PCIe 5.0, PCIe 3.0 x16 and PCIe 3.0 x1 slot each, as well as two M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots and six SATA III (6 Gb/s) ports. The equipment of the novelty also includes a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 (three Type-A and one Type-C), two USB 3.2 Gen 1, eight USB 2.0, 2.5 Gigabit LAN and one each DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1. In addition, the board will receive support for the Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless standards.

The MSI MAG B660M Mortar WIFI Max DDR4 is reportedly set to go on sale in July. Price information is not yet available. It should be noted that the standard version of the board without an external clock generator costs around $160.
