MSI introduces MAG GL power supplies up to 850W with yellow 12VHPWR power connectors

MSI has officially introduced the MAG GL series of power supplies, which was recently shown at Computex 2023. A key feature of the new products, in addition to meeting the PCIe 5.0 and ATX 3.0 standards, is the equipment with yellow 12+4-pin 12VHPWR power cable connectors for GeForce RTX graphics cards of the 40th series.

The new 12VHPWR power connector fits very tightly into the graphics card power connector. Some users, when installing a graphics accelerator, miss this moment and do not fully plug it in, which is almost impossible to notice with a black connector. In this case, the power connector and sometimes the power connector of the graphics card itself can melt under load – such cases are not uncommon.

MSI suggested using yellow connectors on the 12VHPWR power cables to avoid or at least minimize such cases. One half is yellow, the other black. The idea is that if the user still sees the yellow part when installing the plug into the power supply or graphics card connector, then it is not installed correctly. In this case, you need to insert the connector deeper into the graphics card’s power connector until only the black part is visible.

The MSI MAG GL series of PSUs itself includes the MAG A850GL PCIE5, MAG A750GL PCIE5 and MAG A650GL models with a power of 850, 750 and 650 W respectively. The youngest does not comply with the PCIe 5.0 and ATX 3.0 standards and does not have a 12VHPWR power connection. At the same time, all power supplies of the MAG GL series are certified with 80 Plus Gold, which indicates high energy efficiency under load. The efficiency of new products is up to 90%.

The MAG A850GL PCIE5 and MAG A750GL PCIE5 models feature a fully modular cable design. The power cables themselves are flat, which simplifies their installation in the PC system unit. The MAG A750GL PCIE5 model is capable of delivering 12VHPWR 450W of power to the graphics card, and the MAG A850GL PCIE5 model is 600W. The new products feature Active Power Factor Correction (Active PFC) and utilize a single +12- volt line.

All MAG GL power supplies have various protection systems including Over Current Protection (OCP), Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Load Protection (OPP), Short Circuit Protection (SCP), Network Under Voltage Protection (UVP) and Over Temperature Protection (OTP). ). New items are cooled by 120mm fans on hydrodynamic bearings.

The manufacturer did not provide any information on the costs for power supplies from the MAG GL series.
