MSI has released the Z790MPOWER overclocking motherboard for just $199

Just a few days after the Wccftech portal reported that MSI was preparing the Z790MPOWER motherboard, the new product went on sale in China. The Micro ATX board for Intel Alder Lake, Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh processors costs $199 and is intended for overclocking enthusiasts who don’t want to overpay.

The new product offers features typical of more expensive MSI MEG series motherboards. For example, the Z790MPOWER has an external clock generator and the ability to configure the BCLK bus. Both features definitely increase the value for overclockers. The Z790MPOWER is based on a 14-phase VRM power subsystem with a 12+1+1 phase pattern.

The board is equipped with two DIMM connectors for DDR5 RAM modules. It supports RAM modules with speeds of 8000 MT/s (and higher) via XMP profiles and allows up to 128GB of storage.

The new product also received two PCIe 4.0 x16 slots (one in x4 mode), one PCIe 3.0 x1 and two M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots. The external connection set consists of one HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, one USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C (20 Gbit/s), four USB 3.2 Gen2 (three Type-A and one Type-C) with a speed of 10 Gbit/s , two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A (5 Gbit/s) and eight USB 2.0. In addition, the Z790MPOWER received a 2.5 gigabit network adapter, support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

As part of the Z790MPOWER release, MSI is working with various RAM manufacturers who have released sets of fully compatible and tested RAM modules for the new board, themed to the motherboard itself. The companies G.Skill, OLOY, Asgard and BIWIN took part in the collaboration. RAM modules from these manufacturers can be seen in the images above and below.

Another interesting feature of the Z790MPOWER board is that it comes with a small EZ DashBoard accessory board. It is designed for easy overclocking.

This board has buttons for starting and rebooting the PC, resetting the BIOS, and an LED indicator for POST codes. This is a very useful tool for any overclocker, so its inclusion on a $199 board is quite a pleasant surprise.

MSI currently only offers the Z790MPOWER in Asia. The new product will also appear in other markets in the future.
