MSI booth report at Computex 2023: Monitors and computers for gaming and work

MSI set up a large booth at Computex 2023 to showcase a wide range of its latest products. We’ve already dedicated a separate article to the company’s laptops, but here we’ll dig deeper into gaming monitors and desktop computers, and we’ll also talk about PCs and monitors for businesses.

gaming solutions

Among MSI’s gaming monitors, the Project 491C QD-OLED stands out the most as it’s at least a huge, ultra-wide 49-inch curved display. But it wasn’t just about the size. The monitor is based on an OLED panel with quantum dot technology and has an aspect ratio of 32:9, a resolution of 5120 × 1440 pixels, a frequency of 240 Hz and a response time of 0.03 ms.

The Project 491C QD-OLED monitor is suitable not only for gaming, but also for work and offers multitasking – you can fully open several programs at the same time and work with them comfortably. PBP, PIP and KVM4 functions are supported. Accompanying this monitor at the MSI booth was an updated 13th Gen MPG Trident AS Compact Desktop with a Core i7-13700 processor and GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, which is good for gaming at 1440p resolution.

Next, MSI showed a series of gaming monitors MAG 323UPF, portable monitors Optix MAG162V and gaming PCs Infinity X2 13F. The MAG 323UPF monitor is based on a 32-inch Rapid IPS panel with a resolution of 4K (3840 × 2160 pixels), a frequency of 160 Hz and a response time of 1 ms. According to MSI, monitors capable of 4K at 144 Hz and higher will soon become mainstream. In addition, the monitor is suitable not only for use with gaming PCs, but also with consoles – it has an HDMI 2.1 interface, which allows the display of a 4K image at 120 Hz.

The portable 15.6-inch Optix MAG 162V display was installed here for good reason: MSI suggests using a large monitor for gaming, while a small one simultaneously displays YouTube videos, Twitch streams or other content or some additional programs can – there are many possibilities . . The portable screen is based on an IPS panel with Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) and a frequency of 60 Hz. The display is made in a compact body with a thickness of 5.5 mm and a weight of 900 g and also has built-in speakers.

Along with these monitors became a full-fledged MPG Infinite I have such a desire in the flagship configuration.

Finally, MSI showed a system with four gaming monitors: a pair of MAG 274UPF, a MAG 325CQRX and one MEG 342C QD OLED. They are complemented by a computer with an unusual design. MEG Trident X2.

The most advanced of the monitors listed above is the MEG 342C, which is based on a QD OLED panel. It has an aspect ratio of 21:9, a resolution of 3440 × 1440 pixels, a frequency of 175 Hz, a response time of 0.03 ms and a brightness of up to 1000 cd/m2 (peak for HDR).

MAG 325CQRXF is a 32-inch QHD (2560 × 1440 dots) curved monitor. It is based on a Rapid IPS panel with a refresh rate of 240 Hz. The MAG 274UPF, in turn, is based on a 27-inch panel of the same type, but with a 4K resolution and a frequency of 144 Hz.

The flagship gaming computer MEG Trident X2 presented at the stand and the monitors described deserve special attention. It brings together flagship hardware up to the Intel Core i9-13900K and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, as well as an unusual design and a very unconventional approach to cooling.

The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the MEG Trident X2 computer is a small display on the front. It is able to display various useful information about the system, but not only. The screen is touch-sensitive and through it you can monitor and adjust system performance (select the operating mode), as well as control the functions of MSI gaming monitors, e.g. B. activating the Smart Crosshair or Optix Scope functions.

Another extremely interesting feature of the MEG Trident X2 is hidden inside, although hinted at by the asymmetrical design of the PC case. The computer case is divided into two parts, which ensures more efficient cooling – the drives and the power supply are placed in a separate compartment and do not heat up other components. The PC uses the Silent Storm Cooling 3 cooling system, which, using a special deflector, allows you to direct the flow of fresh air directly to the graphics card and expel hot air through the side panel with a large ventilation hole. An LSS with a 280 mm radiator is used to cool the CPU. The system remains quiet, MSI states a noise reduction of 5 dB. And the temperature of Silent Storm Cooling 3 can be reduced by up to 10 °C.

Commercial Solutions

MSI develops not only the direction of gaming products, but also business solutions, to which an entire department was dedicated at the company’s stand at Computex. Computers of various form factors, monoblocks and monitors were demonstrated here.

MSI introduced the Modern MD272QXPW QHD 100Hz monitor with DisplayHDR 400 certification and an ergonomic stand at the show. An important feature of this display is the support of the KVM function, which allows you to connect several computers to one monitor at the same time and control them with a set of mice and keyboards (they are connected to the monitor’s USB ports). This means that many computers can be managed from one workstation, which is useful for system administrators or, for example, for controlling production lines. At the booth, a desktop was connected to the Modern MD272QXPW PRO DP10 13M and the 14″ Modern 14 C12M.

For people in creative professions, MSI introduced a desktop PRO DP180 13, which offers 13th generation Core processors up to Core i7-13700 and NVIDIA graphics cards up to GeForce RTX 3060 with rather modest dimensions (an updated version with GeForce RTX 4060 is planned). An optional optical drive is even possible.

The Modern MD271UL monitor was shown alongside the PRO DP180. It is a 27-inch 4K IPS display with 60 Hz resolution and 10-bit color depth. The display has a wide color space (1.07 billion colors) that covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color space, 95% of Adobe RGB and 139% of sRGB. At the same time, MSI also took care of users’ health by reducing the amount of blue light and flickering. Also note the heavy aluminum stand that provides stability and the ability to adjust the angle of the screen. In addition, it perfectly complements the minimalist design of the monitor.

And for those who need portability, MSI has introduced the 15.6-inch PRO MP161 portable monitor. It has Full HD resolution and a frequency of 60 Hz, as well as a thin body (17.8 mm) and low weight (750 grams). For the convenience of users, MSI has equipped the PRO MP161 with a small stand that allows you to install the display at different angles, both horizontally and vertically. The device is connected via USB Type-C (DisplayPort interface).

In addition to the full-size desktop described above, MSI also showed compact business solutions. The smallest among them is Cubi 5 12M. It is made in a body with a volume of only 0.66 liters, but at the same time it supports resolutions up to 8K (7320 × 2160 pixels) and is able to display one image on three monitors at once. This allows you to create video walls or extended workstations with a very compact PC. The computer is based on mobile Intel Core chips of the 13th generation (up to Core i7) and supports Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E and also has two Ethernet ports (1G and 2.5G).

A slightly larger solution is the 1.1-litre PRO DP10 13M, which supports up to four monitors and was demonstrated at the booth. It also uses 13th generation Intel Core mobile chips (up to Core i7) and supports Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5G Ethernet.

In addition, MSI showed the desktop PRO DP21 12M, which is larger than the two previous models, but still very compact. It already uses more powerful 13th generation Intel Core desktop processors, but the cooling system has a low noise level. This system features a variety of input/output ports – for example, there is a COM port.

Finally, MSI introduced the powerful all-in-one PRO AP243TP. It has a 23.8-inch full HD touch display and uses a 12th generation Intel Core desktop processor. MSI took care of privacy protection separately: with the help of special software, the monoblock can notify the user when someone approaches it from behind, and the built-in webcam has a protective shutter. It also uses eye protection technology.
