Mobile Ryzen 9 7945HX Initial Tests: Faster than Core i9-13980HX on multi-threaded performance

The 16-core mobile flagship AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX from the Dragon Range series can compete with the 24-core flagship Intel Core i9-13980HX for the title of the most productive mobile CPU. The test data was shared by the Notebookcheck portal, which got the opportunity to briefly get acquainted with the updated ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo gaming laptop based on the specified AMD processor.

The single-threaded performance of the Ryzen 9 7945HX in the Cinebench R23 test is almost on par with the Core i9-13980HX. At the same time, the new AMD is 4.4% faster in the multi-threaded performance test.

It’s important to note that the Ryzen 9 7945HX 2023 ROG Zephyrus Duo uses DDR5-4800 RAM, while the Intel-powered MSI Titan GT77 HX 13VI laptop has faster DDR5-5600 RAM. The gaming performance of the Ryzen 9 7945HX was tested in Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. The results can be seen below.

The combined gaming test results show that the Ryzen 9 7945HX lags the Core i9-13980HX by just 7% on average. At the same time, the test indicates that the Ryzen 9 7945HX is significantly more energy efficient compared to the 13th generation Intel Core processors of the HX series. The maximum TDP of an AMD chip is 120W, while for Intel chips this number reaches 150W. Since the Core i9-13980HX is limited in TDP to 120 W, it loses even more multi-thread performance compared to the AMD processor. The gap increases to 22%.

Notebookcheck’s quick review also reveals that the new Ryzen 9 7945HX Zen 4 architecture is significantly faster than the previous-generation flagship Ryzen 9 6900HX Zen 3 processor used in the 2022 ROG Zephyrus Duo.

The processors were tested on MSI and ASUS laptops equipped with GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards with a maximum TDP of 175W.
