Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 laptops get powerful Intel Alder Lake and AMD Ryzen 6000U processors

The successors of the Surface Laptop 4 series will get new energy-efficient Intel Alder Lake and AMD Ryzen 6000U (Rembrandt) processors, according to leak data provided by the portal MyLaptopGuide. Surface Laptop 5 laptops come in two main configurations – 13.5-inch and 15-inch screens. Either way, the displays get a 3:2 aspect ratio, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 120Hz refresh rate.

The 15-inch version of the laptop will be able to offer either a Core i7-1280P with 14 cores and 20 threads or a Zen 3+ Ryzen 7 6980U with 8 cores and 16 threads. Keep in mind that the current version of the Surface Laptop offers 4 Core i7-1187G7 (Tiger Lake) or Ryzen 7 4980U (Renoir).

The lower-end 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 5 is powered by a Rembrandt-series Ryzen 5 6680U with 6 cores and 12 threads, or an Intel Core i5-1240P or Core i7-1280P with 12 cores and 16 threads depending on the number of cores and threads. All Surface 5 series laptops will get support for the Thunderbolt 4 interface. The predecessor is only equipped with USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C connectors with DisplayPort 1.4 alternative operating mode.

According to the available information, the Ryzen 7 6980U based laptop model will get support for LPDDR4X RAM, which is very strange. To date, all announced models of laptops with Rembrandt processors support DDR5 or LPDDR5 memory standards. In other words, either Ryzen 7 6980U and Ryzen 5 6680U are the first Rembrandt processors to support LPDDR4X memory, or there are bugs in the leaked Surface Laptop 5 specifications.
