Microsoft launches forced updates for Windows 11 21H2 PCs for a ‘positive experience’

Microsoft will force Windows 11 21H2 devices to upgrade to Windows 11 22H2. Despite the fact that support for Windows 11 21H2 will not end until October 10, the software giant has already decided to upgrade user devices to a newer version of the software platform, which developers say will be deployed “positive experience”.

The wave of updates will start with devices that have Windows 11 21H2 installed earlier than others. This applies to unmanaged consumer and enterprise computers running Windows 11 21H2 Home and Pro editions. Forced Windows updates to more recent versions is a common practice for Microsoft, but the software giant used to do this just before the end of support for outdated OS versions.

“Windows 11 version 22H2 is now generally available to all users with eligible devices checking for updates. Beginning January 2023, consumer and unmanaged business devices running Windows 11 Home and Pro version 21H2 will be automatically upgraded to version 22H2.”Microsoft said in a statement.

The computers that have used Windows 11 21H2 the longest will be updated first. It is also noted that users can install a newer version of the operating system on their own using Windows Update. If problems are found, Microsoft may block installation of the update on some devices.
