Microsoft is testing Notepad’s ability to count characters in a document

Microsoft has improved the Notepad application in the test build of Windows 11. One of the most important innovations was the addition of the character counting function – a long-awaited update that was implemented in the latest build of Windows 11 in the experimental Canary channel.

As the developers of the Windows Insider team indicate, the new feature allows you to display the number of characters both in selected text and in the entire document. If the text is not selected, the total number of characters in the document is displayed. This gives the user a clear idea of the length of the text, which simplifies the process of analysis and subsequent editing.

In addition, the Notepad application has already received a number of other updates this year. These include an auto-save feature that avoids the need to confirm saving when closing the application; Introduced tabs to make it easier to work with multiple text documents; dark interface theme; and even added a virtual “gear” icon as an element of interactivity.

Additionally, Microsoft has focused on improving the Widgets section of Windows 11. The latest test update includes an option to disable the news and articles feed in the widgets section. According to many users, this change will improve the user experience, as previously the feed often contained low-quality articles and uninformative content.

These improvements are currently being tested, and although Microsoft may make further adjustments, these improvements are expected to be available to all Windows 11 users in early 2024. These updates are part of Microsoft’s overall strategy to improve the usability and functionality of its operating system, which undoubtedly reflects the development trends of modern technologies and user needs.
