Microsoft is preparing a Qualcomm-powered Surface laptop that can compete with AMD and Intel mobile processors

Microsoft is preparing a laptop Surface on a Qualcomm processor. This emerges from a current entry in the benchmark database Geekbench revealing interesting details about upcoming Microsoft device. The tested laptop is based on Qualcomm’s Arm-based flagship chipset for computers – Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 – and offers high performance in its class.

The model name in the Geekbench database follows the form of previous Surface codenames. The EV2 combo suggests the product has entered the hardware testing (EVT) stage, according to the GSMArena resource. At this stage, the manufacturer ensures that all hardware is working properly before moving on to the final stages of work on the design and internal layout of the device.

Most interestingly, the device’s Geekbench test results show that the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 can compete with 25W Intel and AMD processors in terms of multi-core performance. In this parameter, the chip even surpasses the Intel Core i7-1165G7. However, single-core performance is still higher on Intel and AMD processors.

Unfortunately, it is not yet clear which device Microsoft is testing. It will probably be a long time before it is launched on the market, since the device only recently entered the hardware test phase.
