Microsoft is laying off 689 employees at its Redmond headquarters and nearby offices

Microsoft will lay off 689 employees at the company’s Redmond headquarters and nearby offices as part of another round of layoffs, according to data from the Washington State Department of Employment Guarantee (USA) released Monday.

The latest series of layoffs affects Microsoft employees in Redmond, Bellevue and Issaquah. According to media reports, the hardest hit were Visual Studio for Mac, Entertainment and Devices, Azure Edge + Platform and other teams. Previously, employees in the Xbox, Surface and HoloLens divisions were laid off.

Workers who have been laid off will receive a two-month severance pay, six months’ sick pay, reinstatement assistance and other guarantees. The new layoffs are part of Microsoft’s plan to shed 10,000 employees, announced in January as part of a cost-cutting program.

The company’s financial results for its most recent quarter were indicative of slow revenue growth and other issues many companies were facing.
