Microsoft has started testing ray tracing in Minecraft on Xbox Series X and S

Microsoft has announced the start of testing ray tracing technology in Minecraft on the Xbox Series X and S consoles. The new Minecraft Preview build available to Xbox Insider Program members already includes limited support for ray tracing.

Also the latest build is marked as “optimized for Xbox Series X and S”which indicates the upcoming release of a patch with full support for current generation consoles.

Journalist Tom Warren of The Vergine managed to test the Minecraft build mentioned above and noted that support for ray tracing technology remains “not fully implemented”.

Remember that the PC version of the block sandbox Minecraft received support for ray tracing and DLSS back in December 2020. With the technology switched on, the game is optically changed – this is particularly noticeable in the improved quality of the water surface, improved shadows and reflections.

Minecraft was released in November 2011, during which time more than 200 million people have joined the game.
