Microsoft has modified the Windows Insider Program to help test features that may be related to the next version of the operating system

Microsoft announced about major changes to the Windows Insider Program, which tests new builds of the operating system. The developers have added the Canary channel, which will release versions of the platform that require extensive testing and contain changes that may be related to the next version of the software platform.

“The new Canary channel will be a place to preview platform changes that require lengthy testing before they are available to users. Examples include major changes to the Windows kernel, new APIs, etc. This is very similar to what we released on the dev channel last year.”‘ said Amanda Langowski, who runs the Windows Insider program at Microsoft.

Windows Insiders in the Canary channel will see builds with a build number of 25000, while other channels will see builds with lower numbers. Builds 25000 are currently being received by Insiders via the Dev Channel. They’ll be automatically moved to the Canary channel and continue to receive new trial versions of Windows. It should be noted that builds for the Canarian Channel do not undergo extensive internal testing. This means that they can contain bugs that prevent the full operation of the operating system and cause various errors.

In addition, Microsoft recommends insiders who want to be among the first to test new features and not constantly have problems running the operating system to use the dev channel. Developers will continue to use this channel to test features and changes that are not specific to specific Windows versions. Dev Channel Insiders will receive build number 23000.
