It became known that as a result of the next reorganization of some Microsoft developer groups, a new department called Android Microsoft Platform and Experience was created. This is according to an internal letter from Microsoft product director Panos Panay (Panos Panay), which was sent to employees of the company earlier this week.
Panay said in a statement that Surface Duo OS, SwiftKey, Phone Link, Microsoft Launcher and some other development teams whose activities are somehow related to Android became part of the Android Microsoft Platform and Experience. In the past, Android-related projects were handled by Microsoft’s Mobile Experience division, which also develops products for iOS.
According to reports, Microsoft plans to implement a number of projects related to Android and Windows in the coming years. First of all, we are talking about further integration of Android-based smartphones with the Windows software platform. The developers see Android as a complement to a Windows computer and want to give users the opportunity to use various functions similar to those given in connection with iPhone and Mac.
The new entity will be led by Ali Akgun, who previously served as Surface’s corporate vice president, the source said. It is also reported that the company’s vice president Michael Fortin (Michael Fortin) will leave his post, and his duties and powers will be divided among the heads of several departments.
